Ashley is currently studying as a répétiteur on the opera course at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, where he is generously supported by The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths and the Roderick Brydon Memorial Trust.
Ashley works as a répétiteur for Glyndebourne Opera House as the pianist for their Youth Opera programme, where he has worked on four world premieres. With conductor Lee Reynolds, these have been Lovers Walk (Styles) and Tycho's Dream (Styles) and with conductor Sian Edwards, Nothing (Bruce), the critically acclaimed joint commission by Glyndebourne and the Royal Opera House. Last year saw Ashley working as répétiteur and offstage conductor for the world premiere of Belongings, written by Lewis Murphy with libretto by Laura Attridge.
At Guildhall School of Music & Drama, Ashley was a répétiteur for their 2017 autumn Opera Scenes, performed at Milton Court in London. Other productions at GSMD include répétiteur for their spring 2018 production of Dialogues des Carmélites (Poulenc) and their summer production of A Dinner Engagement (Berkeley), both conducted by Dominic Wheeler.
At Trinity Laban, Ashley worked as répétiteur and assistant conductor for the world premier of Banished (McNeff) with conductor Jessica Cottis. In July 2017, Ashley worked alongside conductor Nicholas Kraemer as répétiteur and continuo for the Trinity Laban College Opera production of L'Incoronazione di Poppea (Monteverdi). Whilst studying at Trinity Laban, Ashley was the musical director of the student-run group, PuzzlePiece Opera. With PuzzlePiece, Ashley worked as répétiteur and conductor for abridged productions of Così fan tutte (Mozart), Die Zauberflöte (Mozart), Die Fledermaus (J. Strauss) and Acis and Galatea (Handel).
For Blackheath Halls, Ashley has worked as répétiteur and assistant conductor to Nicholas Jenkins for their 2016 production of Carmen (Bizet) and their 2017 production of Der Freischütz (Weber) - both in English translation. In 2016, Ashley was the organist for the Blackheath Halls Youth Opera production of Noye's Fludd (Britten), conducted by Christopher Stark.
Other opera highlights include répétiteur for English translation productions of Rigoletto (Verdi) and Carmen (Bizet) with Matchbox Opera, regular dep répétiteur for the world premiere of The Nose (Latanka) with the Royal Opera House Youth Opera Company, répétiteur and conductor for Deep Waters (McDowall) and scenes from Hänsel und Gretel (Humperdinck) both for the Summer Music on the Shannon Festival in Ireland. In spring 2017, Ashley was the répétiteur and musical director for Clockwork Opera's production of Une Education Manquée (Chabrier), performed in a brand-new English translation by director Thomas Holland. This summer will see Ashley joining the inaugural Waterperry Opera Festival as Music Director and répétiteur for Mansfield Park (Dove), directed by Rebecca Meltzer.
